Gemini

Gemini is useful when it shortens a real task: a draft, a summary, a search across your own content. We wire it to that task and keep a human in the loop.

What it is

Gemini is Google's family of generative models: text, image, audio, and code, served through Gemini on the web, through Workspace, through Android, and through Vertex AI for companies that want a contract and a region. It is the model Google put behind Search's AI features and behind the assistant on Pixel.

It is not a product on its own. It is a model you call, with prompts, limits, and a fallback when the API is slow. The useful question is which step in the work it should draft, classify, or summarise, not whether the homepage needs a chat widget.

What it does

Teams use Gemini to draft copy, summarise documents, classify tickets, extract fields from messy text, and assist inside tools people already open. Workspace users meet it in Gmail and Docs. Product teams meet it as an API with a key, a log, and a spend cap.

We put it on a named step in the interface. The page still submits when the model is down. Prompts live in the repository. The Google Cloud project stays in your name.

Why we use it

A model in the product, not a chat bolted on the side.

The interface is the product. Gemini fills a field or a panel. If Google Cloud is already the house, we can keep the call in that estate. If it is not, we still use your keys. The prototype includes the assist and the off switch. You try both before anything goes live.

If the flow does not work when Gemini is down, we have designed the wrong product.

Built on it

Google Search

Gemini sits behind Google's own AI answers and the Gemini app.

Google Workspace

Draft and summarise features in Gmail, Docs, and Sheets call Gemini.

Android

Pixel and Android assistants use Gemini as the on-device and cloud model.

Samsung

Has built Gemini into Galaxy phones as a Google partner.

Vertex AI customers

Banks, retailers, and publishers call Gemini through Google Cloud rather than the consumer app.
