Company

Google

Google is often already in the room: a login, a map, a measurement plan. We use the pieces that help the product, and we leave the rest out.

What it is

Google is the company behind Search, Gmail, Android, Maps, YouTube, Chrome, and the advertising system that still funds a large share of the open web. For a product team it is less one tool and more a set of defaults people already have: an account, a map, a browser, a way to find a page.

Alphabet also sells the cloud, analytics, maps APIs, and AI models that sit behind those consumer products. The public face is a search box. The working face is a catalogue of APIs you can wire into a site or an app without asking the user to learn a new world.

What it does

Teams reach for Google when a user already lives there. Sign in with a Google account so a first visit is not another password. Embed a map people already know how to pinch. Tag journeys so marketing can see which pages convert.

It is also the default stack for Android apps, YouTube embeds, Chrome testing, and Workspace mail. The useful move is to pick the one or two APIs that remove friction, then keep the rest of the product on a repository you own rather than wrapping the brand in Google chrome.

Why we use it

Search, accounts, and the defaults people already trust.

We start from the conversion map, not from a partner checklist. If a visitor already has a Google account, we can offer it. If the business lives on the high street, we can put maps on the locator. If paid traffic is part of the plan, we name events after the steps that make money. The rest of the product stays on a repository you own, with a CMS your team can publish from.

Google should feel like furniture in the product, not like the landlord.
